Julia Jordan's "Urban Legacy" By: Coley "Zen" Owens |

Still Life With A Guitar 3 in the A.M It would be so easy to get caught up in the melodic grooves of every song on Julia Jordan’s debut album “Urban Legacy”. Yes, very easy indeed. With an eclectic mix of jazz and soul, with colorful island undertones, Julia’s music is an acoustic tapestry which she has chosen as a backdrop for her beautiful message in every track. Listen to the CD…you will instantly love the breezy melodies, but don’t forget to listen to her often powerful message. |

Starting with the uplifting title track “Urban Legacy”, you can’t help but feel the hope and empowerment in her voice and let it carry you to a sunny spot and wash a smile over your face. Even in the sadly uplifting (yes, it’s possible) “Still Life With A Guitar”, or “3 in the A.M.”, the beauty of her lyrics and voice lend themselves to you like a promise of a brighter day. As does “Revolution”, which pairs Julia’s bluesy voice with the edgy guitar accompaniment of her father, Stanley Jordan, creating a poetic and uplifting anthem that is a must to listen to.
But by far my favorite on the album is “Naked”, an emotionally independent and downright feisty track that will definitely be added to the soundtrack of my life. With a fun groove that makes you want to bounce in your seat (or get out of your seat all together) and sing along!! I had the pleasure of meeting Julia this past January in L.A. after a show. Once you take in her beauty and watch her play, hear her voice, watch her affect her audience the way she does, you realize how much of that comes from within. Julia Jordan truly glows from the inside out, and this album is a true reflection of that. And, it is only the beginning. Julia Jordan is currently in the studio recording her sophomore album, titled “EP For The People”, due out this fall. According to Julia herself, it is "a collection of songs that are influenced by politics, social issues, and spirituality”. It will be closely followed by a book of poetry called "Poetry For the Peaceful", available by the end of the year. |
